Passing of Sara Cook

Sara Cook · January 21, 2022 ·

Sara E. Cook, Managing Partner

It is with great sadness that we announce that Sara Cook, our Managing Partner, died suddenly on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital in Huntley, Illinois. Her husband, Richard, was at her side in the hospital.

Sara had a distinguished legal career. She received a B.A. degree in political science and social work from the University of Iowa. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Mark McCormick of the Iowa Supreme Court, before she came to McKenna Storer as a young attorney. For almost 40 years she practiced law at McKenna Storer, and had been the managing partner since 2010. Colleagues, clients and friends appreciated the humor, practicality and passion she brought to the practice of law as well as life outside the firm.

Sara was a proud and devoted parent of five sons, including two sets of twins, all of whom are now grown. She was active in the community as a CASA volunteer working with foster children and also gave freely of her time to her church. She was a passionate gardener, who described the flowers she grew as “an exercise in humility.” When not tending to her flowers, Sara loved tending to her expanding family, welcoming daughters-in-law and grandchildren over the past few years.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Richard and the entire Cook family. We greatly admired and cared for Sara and her loss is felt by all of us.

Visitation will be Friday January 21, 2022, from 3pm until 8pm at Davenport Funeral Home 419 E. Terra  Cotta Ave. Crystal Lake, Illinois.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 22 at Resurrection  Catholic  Church  2918  Country Club Road Woodstock.
